The Sunken Forest

The Sunken Forest

The main characters in the story were Cameron, Jay, Matthew Smith, Nana, Paul, Azura, Satch (The Policeman and Mr Klinek. Cam is the bully and his friend jay helps him. Matthew's new friends are Paul and Azura. Sach is the policeman called Louis Armstrong. Mr Klinek is Matthew's new teacher, but some people also call him Klink.

The Story took place at Gisborne, Lake Mokau, Lake Waikaremoana and Matthew's School.

The main plot was at the start Matthew helped the old lady take her bins out and she gave him a scone then he saw money and Cam asked Matthew why he was late to school and Cam found out about the money. Then Cam accused Matthew of stealing Cards and Mr Klinek made him come to camp with the year eights. While he was on Camp he found a very large eel and become friends with it. When Cam framed Matthew for moving the marker so he told Cam about the eel and tried to get payback and justice. But while Cam was trying catch the Eel the dam burst and Matt saved Cam.

I think that the best part of the book was when Matt was called a hero for saving Cam from being drowned. I liked this part because Matthew would of felt pride in himself for doing something that everyone knew about.

Kete - Hauora - Website

Kete - Hauora - Website

LO: In small teams, design a new and interactive Google Site. On this site you will need to include information about each of the dimensions of Hauora. You must include why each dimension of Hauora is important and what we can do to ensure we are looking after each aspect of our own hauora.  Be creative with how you present this - people like a site they can interact with.

For Kete this term we have been learning about Hauora. If you dont know what Hauora is it is the Māori philosophy of health and well being unique to New Zealand. The Te Whare Tapa Wha model represents all aspects of Hauora as the four walls of a whare, each wall representing a different dimension. All four dimensions are necessary for strength and stability. The Whakatauki for Hauora is Tama tu, tama ora, tama noho, tama mate. This means An active person will remain healthy while a lazy person will become sick. The main activity for the Hauora was to create a website with a partner, so I chose to work with Andre and we made an awesome website.

This is the link for the website is down below

Some of the thing we chose to put on our website were describe what physical, emotional, social & spiritual health is, compare and contrast choices about food and how this affects our bodies, explain how exercise and physical activities help Hauora, describe how to achieve and keep positive emotional health, understand the difference between needs and wants, use health and wellbeing vocabulary correctly and effectively, Explain how we keep ourselves safe and demonstrate an understanding of balance. But the things we had to put on were pages about Taha Whanau, Taha Wairua, Taha Tinana, Taha Hinengaro, a title page and a page about how food affects your bodies. I think that this has been one of the coolest activities to do for kete because it was really fun making the website with Andre for a change.

Please leave me a positive, thoughtful helpful comment to help me move forward with my learning.

Kete - Toitūtanga (Sustainability)

Kete - Toitūtanga (Sustainability)

On a rainy wet Monday morning to start off our new kete the teachers decided to let us watch a movie to explain to us about our new kete Sustainability. The movie they let us watch was The Lorax, a movie which is based off a book by Dr. Seuss.

In my opinion I think they let us watch it because it explained really well about Sustainability and Environmentalism so they could teach us about our new kete. They also may have let us watch it to teach us to explain about the authors purpose of something.

Questions:
1.  What is the big idea of the movie?
A. I think the big idea of the movie is that your past effects your future or one person can change things about other people.
2. What does the author want you to think about?
A. I think the author wrote the book to persuade us to care about the environment and one person can make a difference.
3. What Are The Key Concepts?
A. Sustainability, Environmentalism, Pollution, Social Responsibility, Nature and Deforestation.

Reflection:
I think that the teachers have thought really well about what movie to watch to help us understand about our new kete. The movie also really makes you think about how the environment helps us live and how some people don't respect the environment. So thank you teachers for choosing the right movie to show us.
